ARRIVING AT THE DRIVING TEST CENTRE, DERRY

It is advisable to have at least a one hour driving lesson, before the driving test.  The driving instructor will collect you for the lesson, and drive to the driving test centre, after.

 EXAMINER'S PROCEDURE

1)   On arrival at the driving test centre, Derry, your allocated driving test examiner, will ask you to sign the insurance declaration on the driving test report. You will be asked if you want your instructor to accompany you on the test.

2)   The driving test examiner checks your driving licence, appointment letter, theory test certificate and registration book for the car you will be using for the driving test

3)   The driving test examiner asks you to make your way to the vehicle in the parking bay.  At the start of the driving test, you will be asked to read a car number plate from a distance of 67 feet, to ensure your eyesight meets the legal requirements for driving.  If it doesn't, the driving test won't take place.

4)   The "show me, tell me" questions are performed at the start of the driving test. You may be asked to open the car bonnet to identify eg. where the oil dipstick is.

5)   The driving test sheet will be marked by the driving test examiner during your driving test.  At the end of the test, the examiner will offer you an explanation of any faults committed.  Whether you pass or fail, you will be given the DL9A form.  On the other side of the form, is the driving test explained.

6)   If you pass, the driving test examiner will issue you with a "Certificate Of Passing A Test Of Competence To Drive", to be sent away by you for a full driving licence.

7)   The driving test on average, lasts about 35 or 45 minutes.
