Alpha Driving School

HOW LONG DOES A LESSON LAST?

A driving lesson lasts for one hour.   However it's possible to arrange a 90 minute or 2 hour lesson.

WILL I HAVE THE SAME INSTRUCTOR TRAINING ME FROM START TO FINISH?

Yes.  I'm a fully qualified, experienced instructor.  My ADI number is 1961.

HOW MANY LESSONS WILL IT TAKE TO PASS THE DRIVING TEST?

The average number of lessons is about 35 - 40.   However, everyone learns at different rates.  Some pupils need fewer/more lessons than this, depending on:  -

  • your own ability;
  • your level of confidence;
  • how frequently you take lessons;
  • your age;
  • whether you take 1 or 2 hourly lessons;
  • how much, if any, private practice you get between lessons;
  • any previous experience.

WILL I PASS THE DRIVING TEST IN DERRY, 1ST TIME?

Following a well structured course of driving lessons with Alpha Driving School, will help ensure success, 1st time around.

If you click on the "Driving Test Pass Rate Derry" page of this website you'll see a sample of recent test passes.  This will give you a good idea of your own high chances.   If they can do it you can too ! ..

In my experience, learner drivers who pass the 1st time, usually display the same traits, including:-

1)  Choosing a fully qualified, experienced, driving instructor such as Alpha Driving School, Derry;

2)  Follow a well structured course of lessons, with step-by-step training.

3)  Don't switch instructors;

4)  Take frequent lessons on a regular basis;

5)  Follow the DVA syllabus, & have their progress monitored on a drivers' record sheet;

6)  Seldom cancel a lesson.  If this happens, they usually take extra the following week to make up for this;

7)  Rarely, if ever, take breaks or long gaps of weeks/months between driving lessons;

8)  Study for the theory test after about 5 driving lessons; and attempt the theory test before approximately 15 lessons;

9)  Wait until I tell them they're fully prepared (not what mum, dad, spouse etc. tells them.)   The driving test has changed quite a bit from mum & dad's day!);

10)  Pass 1 or 2 mock tests;

11)  Take 1 or 2 extra lessons the week of the test;

12)  Don't miss any weeks' lessons in the run up to the driving test;

13)  Are willing to postpone the test for a few weeks, if I don't feel they're ready;

14)  Use the same car they have trained in, for the driving test;

15)  Applying everything I've taught them and remaining confident on the big day.

HOW MANY LESSONS SHOULD I TAKE A WEEK?

This is entirely up to you.   Alpha Driving School recommends 1 or 2 lessons of 2 hours per week. The more frequently you take lessons, will reduce the amount of lessons needed overall.

DO I NEED TO PASS THE THEORY TEST BEFORE I BEGIN MY LESSONS?

No.  You'll need to pass the theory test before applying for the practical driving test.  It's advisable to study for your theory test, shortly after you begin your lessons.

WHICH DAYS OF THE WEEK CAN I GET A LESSON?

You can book a driving lesson normally Monday - Saturday.  The evenings I usually work are Tues, Wed & Thursday.    Sundays and Bank Holidays are normally days off.

HOW DO I BOOK A DRIVING LESSON?
